How is CaseMark different from ChatGPT?

Your data will never be used to train large language models or be sold to third parties. Period.

We focus first on security and privacy and it is our guarantee that we will never use your sensitive data to train our large language models.

My workflow is taking longer than 30 minutes to process. What should I do?

A

Summaries should process within a few minutes and not longer than 30 minutes.First, ensure that you’ve uploaded a PDF or TXT file. You can upload up to 6 files at a time. Each file must be less than 128 MB or 1,000 pages. Retry with just one file. If this does not work, please contact us and we will help troubleshoot the issue.

My summary failed or I was charged for a summary that didn’t complete. What should I do?

A

Please contact us with the name of the file / summary and the error listed on screen. We will credit your account and troubleshoot the issue.

How do I delete a summary, chat session or my account?

A

You can delete a summary and the files associated with it by clicking on "Documents" from the left side navigation. You will see a list of your current documents. On the far-right side is a column labeled "Actions." Select the trash can icon to permanently delete your file.

You can delete your account by clicking on your name on the bottom left side of the app dashboard. Select “manage account” and then “security.” The choice to “Delete account” is listed in red at the bottom of the page.

Is there a size or page limit for uploaded transcripts?

A

Yes. The maximum number of concurrent file uploads is 6. The max file size is 128 MB. This often translates to around ~1000 pages per file.

What summary should I use?

A

We wrote a whole article on this! Here’s the short version.

Page line summary: Use this to quickly scan facts. A 5:1 page line summary is 5 pages reduced to 1 page. 10:1 is 10 pages reduced to 1 page. If you have a 200-page document, a 5:1 would be 40 pages (more content, longer), and a 10 to 1 would be 20 pages (much more condensed).

Narrative summary: Use this to help you remember the story of the case. A narrative summary tells a story in chronological order.

Case summary / matter summary: Use this for a concise overview of the case or matter for internal use within a law firm. A case summary contains a written summary of the basic components of the decision made about a case. A matter summary has broader use in capturing a client's legal issue or situation. Think of a case summary as a chapter summary in a law textbook, focusing on a specific legal battle. A matter summary is like a project summary for a client's individual legal issue.

Trial and hearing summary: Use this to understand the final outcome of a trial or hearing OR the outcome from the day. A trial and hearing summary gives you a quick view of the relevant aspects of a trial or hearing.

What is a 10:1 or a 5:1 summary?

A

A 10:1 summary is 10 pages of a document reduced to 1 page. This would make a 200 page document just 20 pages long. A 5:1 summary reduces 5 pages to 1 page.

How do I use Chat?

A

After completing a summary, you might want to ask specific questions of the document(s) you summarized. Our chat allows you to securely query the documents you uploaded to CaseMark.

You can:
-plan next steps such as “what are the next 5 questions I might ask in a directed deposition given this testimony?”
-extract specific information from the documents such as “how many times was CFRA leave requested?”
-ask questions about these documents in natural language, such as “what were the circumstances of the plaintiff’s dismissal.”
-translate content,-ask the same question about several documents.

What types of integrations does CaseMark support?

A

CaseMark currently integrates with Microsoft Word and the Google Chrome browser.We also offer integrations with popular law practice management software including Smokeball and Clio.

What LLMs does CaseMark use?

A

CaseMark is LLM agnostic. We've tested a variety of LLMs and use the LLM best suited to provide the most accurate result for your summary type.

Do you provide training?

Yes! We offer a number of video tutorials. You can also ask questions using our in-app chat.

Do you offer support?

We are available for chat support from Monday through Friday during the West Coast business hours. The best way to reach us is through the chat function within CaseMark or via our contact form.

Q

Pronouns are not showing up correctly within a summary.

A

This is a known issue with AI in general. There are five reasons why this error occurs in the major LLM technologies: the algorithms are trained on data with gender imbalances; the algorithms are trained on narrow genres of data; the datasets are not correctly labeled; domain experts were not consulted; and there are underlying linguistic differences between masculine and feminine pronouns in English.

AI needs context to understand gender. When context is lacking, AI falls back on English grammar conventions, which is why the plural “they” is used. This article explains the grammar issues in detail. CaseMark is focusing our development efforts on our core product, rather than this issue found in multiple LLMs.

Can CaseMark be used by people who are not legal professionals?

A

Yes! CaseMark’s existing legal summary formats can be used by anyone (individuals involved in their own cases, students, expert witnesses). We can also create bespoke, custom summaries outside of the legal industry for your specific use case.

What are the technical requirements needed to use CaseMark without issue, such as compatible operating systems, devices, and internet speed?

A

Because of the nature of the application, CaseMark's website is tested on the most recent versions of Chrome and Safari for Windows and Mac desktop use. We also support iOS and Android mobile. A reliable internet connection of at least 10 Mbps is necessary to be able to upload / download files.

Security and Privacy

CaseMark uses public cloud providers for all data center operations. All of our public cloud vendors are certified under SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI DSS.

We can support multiple data center regions from our providers to provide the most reliable and security services while providing the necessary data residency requirements.

Does OpenAI / ChatGPT store CaseMark’s customer data?

A

CaseMark made the decision early on to build a platform independent of any single AI vendor. OpenAI is a large company with competing demands that does not necessarily think about legal-first as being a priority. While we leverage some of the open source models (like GPT4-turbo and others) from OpenAI, we run them in private containers inside of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services such that they have no communication whatsoever with OpenAI. This is true of all of the AI models that we run. By knowing exactly what and where we're running against your data, we can safely make the guarantee that we will never utilize your data for training purposes.

Is CaseMark SOC 2, Type 2 compliant?

A

Yes, CaseMark is currently undergoing a SOC2 Type II audit and should be completed by Q4 2024. Please contact us if you are interested in doing a security review.

Where does CaseMark store customer data? Do you have an EU data center?

A

CaseMark is a software as a service vendor. Our data is stored in secure data centers in the US. We are cloud agnostic. For enterprise clients, data can be stored in the location and vendor of your choosing.

Can I trust my sensitive filings and transcripts with CaseMark?

A

CaseMark is built by a team of technology veterans who have been entrusted with some of the most sensitive data, delivered at Internet-scale for over 20+ years. Our partnership with Microsoft Azure sets us apart from other startups that simply run on top of OpenAI and it affords us the ability to be significantly more scalable, reliable and independent of any single AI vendor.

CaseMark will never use customer data to train our models or to sell to third party vendors. We are focused on building our brand around our security and privacy promise to our customers.

Does CaseMark integrate with any OAuth Identity Providers?

CaseMark offers Single Sign-On (SSO) using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) to enhance both security and user experience.

Does CaseMark have a confidentiality agreement in place?

All employees  are required to sign and adhere to an industry standard confidentiality agreement prior to their first day of work.

Can I use CaseMark to handle data that has a Protective Order that restricts how I can use confidential information, including source code?

Yes, please contact us. We gave the following security measures in place for all customers.

Data Security: CaseMark employs robust security measures, including encryption, access controls, and regular audits, to protect the confidentiality of your data. We do not share or sell data to third parties.

What is your pricing model?

A

CaseMark’s pricing model is pay as you go. You pay just for what you use. Summaries start at $25 each.

How are payments securely processed?

A

CaseMark uses Stripe to support secure payments. Stripe holds the highest level of certification in the payments industry, being a certified PCI Service Provider Level 1. This ensures the utmost security in payment processing.  You can also work with our accounts payable team for direct billing. Contact us for details.

Do you offer Enterprise or volume discounts?

A

Yes- we offer volume discounts starting at 100 summaries per month. We also offer a white-label solution, customized with your branding. Please contact us for more details.
